ESG webinar: Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance (EWEB24112002)

A significant amount of capital is required for developing solutions to combat climate change, supporting the transition of carbon-intensive activities, and tackling other environmental challenges. The support of the financial industry is key for addressing climate change, which will in turn bring about enormous opportunities to banks and investors alike.

Playing the role of a supervisor and an enabler of change, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority published in May 2024 the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, which strives to provide the industry with a tool to facilitate the identification of green economic activities and support the scaling up of green finance flows.

In this webinar*, the speaker will cover:

  • Asia's green transition: Understand the urgent need for financing green, sustainable and transition activities in Asia and the unique opportunities that lie ahead. Learn how Hong Kong is poised to lead the charge in green and sustainable finance in the region.
  • Decoding taxonomies: What exactly is a taxonomy? Learn about its objectives and how it serves as a catalyst for scaling up green and sustainable finance.
  • Global trends in taxonomy development: Get an overview on international taxonomy trends and how taxonomies are shaping the development of green and sustainable finance worldwide.
  • The Hong Kong taxonomy: Delve into the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance. Understand its guiding principles, scope, sector and activity coverage, and interface with other mainstream taxonomies.
  • Practical applications: Learn how market participants can harness the Hong Kong Taxonomy to identify and assess green and sustainable activities effectively through illustrative use cases.
  • Incentive scheme: Explore the Green and Sustainable Finance Grant Scheme and how it can benefit capital raising activities to fund green, sustainable and transition investments.
  • Looking ahead: Gain insights into the next phase development of the Hong Kong Taxonomy.

* This webinar is jointly arranged by Sustainability Committee and Financial Services Interest Group.
